Australia is not known for cheap holiday’s and with cost of living increasing, many people may think they have to cancel all their travel plans. However, there are still a few hidden gems in Australia that won’t break the bank. Let me show where to go in Australia if your looking for a cheap holiday destination!
1. Broome, WA
Located on the Kimberly coast, Broome is the perfect inexpensive holiday destination for anyone looking for sun, salt and adventure. With plenty of paid activities to choose from such as; sunset camel riding and dinosaur adventure tours, Broome also comes along with plenty of free activities!
Cable beach is famous for photos of the white sand meeting the red dirt. It’s also a perfect place for a cooling swim, snorkelling and surfing. You can also book yourself a mesmerising sunset camel back tour.
Broome is by far most famous for the illusion known as ‘Stair Case To The Moon’. At certain months there’s a couple of days where the raising moon casts light over the mud flats creating the staircase illusion. This can be viewed at Roebuck Bay.
The courthouse markets are a collection of local craft, food and produce. Located in the town centre, the markets are on every Saturday and Sunday. It’s lovely to wander through and browse the stalls. Also grab yourself a bite from one of the many food trucks.
Explore Gantheaume Point and look for the ancient dinosaur foot prints! The foot prints can only been at low tide and will require a bit of rock scrabbling.
2. Cairns, QLD
If you’re wanting to explore the Great Barrier Reef without emptying your pockets, get yourself to Cairns.
Cairns is known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef so there’s no better place to see it! With an abundance of reef tours your guaranteed to find a cheap price!
The saltwater lagoon is a free swimming spot located in the town. It’s perfect for cooling down and sun baking on the grassy banks.
Visit Rusty’s fruit market and the night markets to browse local crafts, produce and food!
Josephine falls is a beautiful swimming spot. The rocks overtime have been smoothed down to create a natural waterslide!
3. Albury, NSW
Resting along the banks of the Murray River is the regional city of Albury. This is a perfect cheap holiday destination if your looking for a bit of adventure!
Plenty of peaceful walking tracks are offered in Albury. The Wagirra Trail takes you right along the Murray River and into the beautiful Wonga Wetlands.

Enjoy the Murray River at Noreuil Park by taking a walking, riding or hiring a kayak!
Try your luck at some fishing at the astonishing Lake Hume.

4. Blue Mountains, NSW
For more walking and viewing incredible scenery you have to go to the Blue Mountains! There’s plenty of cheap and free activities to do!
See the famous sandstone peaks known as the Three Sisters at Katoomba. From here you see the stunning Jamison valley.
For the best view point head to Lithgow. Here you will see the Blue Mountains from the highest viewpoint available. Also make sure to see the Jenolan Caves.
The Grand Canyon walk is an awesome way to see the Blue Mountain’s. Here you will walk between the canyons covered in a thick green carpet of moss! Check it out on the AllTrails App!

5. Launceston, TAS
Tasmania’s second largest city is full of perfect cheap holiday activites!
There’s plenty of museums and art galleries to explore!
You have to see the beautiful Cataract Gorge and the single span chairlift that takes you right over the gorge!
The community farmers market is perfect for seeing what the locals have to offer! Browse for a wide collection of produce and food! The market runs every Saturday.
