Craving a sweet and refreshing drink this summer but don’t want the added sugar? You have to try my healthier lemonade recipe that is so easy and quick to make!
Ingredients:
- 6-8 large lemons (about 1 cup of lemon juice)
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (use a sugar free maple syrup to cut down on the sugar, I get mine from Coles) or 1 tbsp of Stevia
- 4 cups cold water
- 1 cup ice cubes
- 1-2 teaspoons grated ginger (optional, for added flavour)
- Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Juice the Lemons using a juicer.
- Sweeten with Sweeteners: Instead of using granulated sugar, use honey or maple syrup to sweeten the lemonade or you can add in an artificial sweetener such as stevia. Both options add a touch of sweetness. Start with 1/4 cup of maple or honey or a table spoon on artificial sweetener. Adjust to your taste preferences.
- Add Cold Water and Ginger: Pour 4 cups of cold water into the lemon juice and sweetener mixture. If you like some extra flavour, you can add grated ginger, which is great for your immune system!
- Stir and Chill: Mix everything well, making sure the sweetener is completely dissolved. Place the pitcher in the refrigerator to chill the lemonade for about 1-2 hours.
- Serve: Once chilled, add some ice cubes to serving glasses and pour the healthy lemonade over them.
- Garnish: For an added touch, garnish each glass with a few fresh mint leaves. Mint adds a refreshing aroma and a pop of color.
- Sip and enjoy your guilt-free, healthy lemonade!
This recipe reduces the amount of added sugar while still offering a refreshing and flavourful drink. You can also get creative and experiment with other natural sweeteners like agave syrup, depending on your dietary preferences. Remember to adjust the sweetness to your liking and add more water if you prefer a lighter taste. Enjoy!
